For millions of beer lovers the world over, a properly poured pint of Guinness Stout is as close to perfection as beer gets. Each year, fans of the legendary black liquidation enjoy two billion pints of the beer known for its distinctive creamy head and rich drinkability. In Guinness, Yenne traces the 250-year tale of the family and its namesake beer. Beginning with Arthur Guinness, the entrepreneur patriarch who first began brewing at St. James's Gate, Dublin, in 1759, the story follows succeeding generations of the Guinness family through the years. Yenne follows not just the fortunes of the family Guinness, but also the development of the brand and the beer—from Arthur's earliest porter to the beer that is enjoyed in 150 countries today. For Guinness aficionados, this tale offers an inside look at a legendary brewing company and the craftsmanship and pride that go into every keg. Manly Coctails

Without meaning to cause any undue insults, cocktails do have a reputation for not being the manliest drink in the world. In fact in the scale of drinks and their suitability to gender cocktails will always come up under the feminine section of the graph. A pint of beer or lager is for most men considered as exotic and exciting as a drink needs to be and the only cocktail they could knock up without resorting to a recipe would be a standard Lager Shandy. Anything with bright colors and a small umbrella sticking out the top is enough to scare off most men in bewilderment. But do not fear, for there are a number of cocktails that can be considered manly enough for almost any man to sip without a growing feeling of girlishness overcoming them.

Firstly there are a number of cocktails that are so potent in their alcohol content that you will struggle to find any girly cocktail drinker willing to down one. The Irish Car Bomb is one of these. This fierce drink combines 3/4 of a pint of Guinness stout, 1/2 shot of Jameson's Irish whiskey and 1/2 shot of Bailey's Irish Cream. As the title suggests the combined shots are dropped into the Guinness and the lethal concoction is gulped rather than sipped.

Similarly a Snake Bite has gathered such a reputation for being a dangerous mixture that there are rumors of it being banned in places in Britain. This mixture contains half lager and cider with a touch of blackcurrant juice to disguise the taste rather than add an attractive purple hue to the finished product. Let's face it as well; the name is anything but girly.

Some cocktails can be placed into the category of manly cocktails because of their name alone. For many a man may feel insecure standing at a bar and ordering a Cosmopolitan to the accompaniment of jeers from the beer drinkers around him, but anyone can get away with something that sounds as unsophisticated as a Rusty Nail. The recipe for this drink includes 3/4oz scotch, 1/4 oz Drambuie, there is nothing faintly fruity or exotic about that mixture is there?

Another cocktail which falls under into the category of manly named cocktails is The Godfather, a cocktail which exudes the violence and darkness of the classic movie. The Godfather cocktail is simple in its ingredients and right to the point in terms of flavor, combining an average glass of scotch with a hint of amaretto to add an Italian almond hint. A cocktail that doesn't mess around with superfluous flavors, a cocktail any man can't refuse.

The next cocktail falls into the field of manly cocktails not because of the drink itself but because it is the drink of choice of The Rolling Stones legendary guitarist Keith Richards, a man who is the image of Rock and Roll. If any man could turn a drink from a girl's favorite into a man's cocktail of choice it is this man. The cocktail is known as Nuclear Waste, 2 oz premium vodka with 1 oz Sunkist or any orange soda, plus plenty of ice. The man himself claims, "Whiskey wasn't agreeing with me anymore. The old body couldn't take it. Brandy is a killer, and wine is the best with food, so somehow I settled on this. Plenty of ice. Lovely."

That is a good enough list for any man to start on his journey through cocktails without any feelings of insecurity. After enjoying these any man may soon find themselves proudly ordering a brightly colored cocktail with any number of adornments and garnishes on top of the glass.
